2021 Seminar on Strengthening Trade Secrets Protection Mechanisms

2021-09-15Seminars & Workshops
  1. Purpose: In the face of global competition, companies strive for technological innovation to gain a competitive advantage. However, if their research and development efforts are leaked or stolen and used by competitors, all their hard work will be in vain and they may even face huge losses or compensation claims. Especially since Taiwan's industries occupy a critical position in the global supply chain, protection of trade secrets is crucial to maintain the survival and competitiveness of these businesses. Despite the criminal liability added to the Trade Secrets Act in 2013, there are still cases where companies fail to take reasonable measures to protect their secrets and cannot obtain legal remedies when infringed. Therefore, it is extremely important for companies to take measures to protect their trade secrets. In addition, companies should also prepare how to respond and collect evidence in the event of infringement, to help law enforcement authorities quickly understand and investigate the case, and minimize losses. To help companies establish a complete trade secret protection mechanism, the Intellectual Property Office of the Ministry of Economic Affairs, Taiwan Trade Secrets Protection Association, Bureau of Industry, Export Processing Zone Administration, Criminal Investigation Bureau of National Police Agency, 2nd Special Police Corps, and Industrial Park Association have collaborated to plan one seminar on strengthening trade secret protection mechanisms for companies in the Nan Kang Software Park, Taichung Precision Machinery Technology Innovation Park, and Kaohsiung Nanzi Technology Park. Industry experts and law enforcement officers are invited to share their experiences and knowledge on four themes: "Innovative Strategies for Effective Trade Secret Protection," "Reasonable Measures for Trade Secret Confidentiality," "Practical Investigation of Trade Secret Cases," and "SOP and Case Sharing for Reporting Trade Secret Cases.“
  2. Target audience: Mainly factory owners, business leaders, personnel responsible for trade secret protection in companies (such as legal and information personnel), lawyers, and judicial practitioners in each park. The number of participants will depend on the space of each venue and follow the epidemic center's regulations on the maximum number of attendees for events.
  3. Notes for participation: (1) This seminar invites well-known companies in the industry to share practical experiences related to trade secret protection. To protect their intellectual property rights, no handouts will be provided for any sessions, and recording, live streaming, photography, and video recording are prohibited. (2) To comply with epidemic prevention measures, all participants must wear masks throughout the event, and bringing food or drinks (except for drinking water) into the venue is prohibited.
